Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index program. National data from FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data); Census-region CPI from the BLS regional series. Component weights are approximate BLS relative-importance estimates (December 2024, CPI-U).
Note: The geography selector covers the national index and the four Census regions. Component detail (and the drill-down into sub-components) is available at the national level; the regions carry headline CPI year-over-year. Rolling averages are simple (unweighted) moving averages computed client-side. PCE data is national only (BEA, not available at sub-national level).
Interpretation: The decomposer shows what's driving inflation, not a forecast. Supply shocks (energy, food) and shelter dynamics (OER lags market rents by ~4 quarters) can mask underlying inflation trends — see the CPI Methodology History for more on measurement issues including hedonic adjustments and the Boskin Commission.
